Multi-Use Radio Service

(Redirected from Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS) (US Nationwide))
The Multi-Use Radio Service, also known by it's acronym MURS, is a low power, short range, license-exempt personal radio service in the United States. MURS currently has 5 defined channels between 151.82 MHz and 154.6 MHz.
MURS is intended for relatively short-range local voice or data communications. Antenna height is limited to 20 feet above structure or 60 feet above ground, whichever is the greater. Very narrow bandwidth transmissions (maximum 11.25 kHz channel bandwidth, with +/- 2.5 kHz deviation) are permissible on all five MURS channels. The older +/- 5 kHz deviation signals (with a maximum 20 kHz channel bandwidth) are also permitted (but not required) on the two upper channels (in the 154 MHz band).

MURS Business Radios
Full Article: MURS Equipment
With the MURS channels being pre-defined frequencies right in the middle of VHF business band, virtually any freely programmable two way radio can be tuned to these channels.
Historically, many manufacturers also made MURS-exclusive radios. These included the Motorola CP100m (cancelled), RDM2080D (cancelled), and RMM2050 (current). All MURS-exclusve radios are restricted to the 5 MURS frequencies, 2W output power and can be used without the need for an FCC license.
Wal-Mart / Sam's Club Use Of MURS Channels
Walmart and Sam's Club have an exclusive radio, manufactured by Motorola Solutions, called RDM2070D. This radio is pre-programmed on MURS frequencies. Every Walmart and Sam's Club store has a number of these radios. RDM2070D is virtually the same radio the RDM2080D but available to anyone.
2019 Update: Both RDM2070D and RDM2080D are cancelled by Motorola Solutions in favour of their newly released RMM2050. RMM2050 is now the only known MURS-exclusive business radio made by Motorola Solutions.
Wal-Mart / Sam's Club Standard Channel Plan
This listing is the standard configuration that most RDM2070D radios are delivered to stores containing. The PL tones can be changed by local radio stores, so squelch usage at various Wal-Mart or Sam's Club stores may vary.
